1) Being a fluid Director-Editor. Truth told, I became an editor so that I could direct. For me it was like, if you want to be a writer, you need to know how to read. Editing is the language of film for me, so being extremely good at it means success as a director.
2) Dedicating my life to being well traveled. As an airline brat, I’ve been traveling solo since 15, at a time before cell phones and internet. Being dropped in a foreign country and having to communicate for fun is what makes bringing ideas to life for multiple personalities a breeze for me. I love people the way I love concepts; the more complex, the better.
3) I’m personally interested in what’s interesting. I revive old cookbooks, am an awarded travel journalist, teach ‘funny’ at UCB, I run not just a vintage camera quest but also a sandwich quest, I’m FAA licensed to commercially fly drones, and even drive the vehicles I advertise. I also dabble in archery but there isn’t much commercial work for that. Yet.
